In March this year, I was watching some random video the YouTube algorithm bubbled up to me, as one does. I am not sure who made it or what it was about anymore, but the guy mentioned reading a book called 'Dungeon Crawler Carl' by Matt Dinniman. This led me to looking it up online and discovering a completely new-to-me genre called "LitRPG", in this case even "science fantasy LitRPG". Yes, you read that right, it is basically the literature version of playing a Role Playing Game.

This notion fascinated me and I got my grubby paws on the first installment which I started reading immediately because I was ADHD'ed out of the (great, but lengthy) Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson.

Instantly hooked I was. I will not say too much as it is easy to spoil things, but our protagonist finds himself in a fantasy dungeon world after his own world suddenly collapses for a large part and stairs appear leading down into the earth. He has to adjust fast to survive this new environment and quickly discovers he has a game interface inside his head, complete with inventory and chat system, just like you have in computer games on PC and consoles. Except for the people now trapped inside this dungeon, the game is real, and getting to live is not optional.

The style of the books is described as Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy meets World of Warcraft and Futurama. It is fast-paced in a good way, but also great world building and character development, and you do not have to ever played an RPG to enjoy it all.

Let's just say that I finished the 8th book in the series yesterday and now have to wait for the ninth and final one to wrap it all up. That's binging speed for me.

Anyway, just wanted to recommended to whoever is wondering what to start reading next. You won't regret it.
